What Does Life AFTER Chronic Pain Look Like?

What Does Life After Chronic Pain Look Like?

When people have lived in chronic pin for  a long time, they tend to only think about the pain, but not what comes next. When you're just focused on getting rid of the pain as your end goal, then there's a slim-to-none chance of you ever getting there. Your brain replays the pain over and over, and reinforces the thought that "I'm in pain," or "This pain is really bad", or "What if the pain never goes away?" Replaying these thoughts over and over in your head actually makes the pain worse!  It's true... science shows that people who tend to keep thinking about their pain over and over tend to have a harder time recovering from chronic pain, and over time, the pain can actually get worse.

But a good question to consider is...

"What Would You Do If The Pain Never Went Away?"

Most people tend to answer this question with a version of "Well, I've never thought of that.  I guess I would just try to live life the best I could."

So why not do that?

What are the things you want to do after the pain goes away?

When you start doing those things before the pain goes away and stop focusing on the pain itself... you will notice that the pain will start to gradually go away.

When pain no longer stops you from doing the things you need and want to do, it's less of a threat.  And when things are less threatening, they don't cause as much pain!  If you've been following my blog for awhile, you know that:

Pain ≠ Tissue Damage.  Pain = Threat

But how do you get back to doing the things you love when the pain is so bad?

My book: "Chronic Pain: You're Not Just Getting Older, You're Not Crazy, and It's Not All In Your Head" is full of information about what causes chronic pain as well as useful, actionable tips that you can start using right away to get relief.
