How is Our Treatment For Achilles Tendonitis Different?
First of all, Achilles tendon pain is not a one-size-fits all approach.
For example, the treatment of Achilles tendonitis (-itis = an inflammatory condition) may be very different than the treatment for Achilles tendinopathy (a chronic, non-inflammatory pathology), but many people treat them the same.
Second, not all pain in the Achilles tendon or heel area is fully an Achilles tendon problem.
For example, nerves from your lower back or leg can often mimic Achilles tendonitis.
That's why we believe that the first step in getting you better is to find the root cause of the problem.
Some of the things that contribute to Achilles tendon pain may include:
- Lower back problems
- Hip weakness
- Calf muscle stiffness
- Ankle instability
- Ankle stiffness
- Feet that are too flat OR too arched
- Improper footwear
- Increasing running mileage too quickly
- Poor nutrition
- Smoking
- Certain antibiotics (i.e. ciprofloxacin or norfloxacin)
- Statin cholesterol medications
That's a lot of factors to consider!
