What's The Best Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Brace?
In this post, I'll explain what to look for when buying carpal tunnel syndrome brace. Plus, I'll review the Koprez carpal tunnel syndrome brace.
There are hundreds if not thousands of wrist braces for carpal tunnel syndrome on the market, so I won't go out on a limb and say it's the best, but it is one of the most comfortable ones that I've encountered.
When To Use A Wrist Brace For Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome braces are most helpful at nighttime.
Carpal tunnel syndrome, is caused by the compression of your median nerve in the carpal tunnel in your wrist.
This compression happens during wrist flexion, for example, when you sleep with your wrists curled.
You can control the position of your wrist during the day to some extent, but using a wrist brace at night time can help prevent carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms from flaring up.
Repetitive use of the hands can also cause carpal tunnel syndrome. Typing and other office work is one of the most common caused of carpal tunnel syndrome.
What To Look For In A Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Brace
It should keep your wrist in a slight extension (about 10 degrees), which is the neutral resting position of the wrist.
The brace should be firm, preventing excessive wrist movement. However, it should also be comfortable to ensure that you'll actually wear it.
You also want to look for braces that are washable, because carpal tunnel syndrome braces can get hot. If you wear them at night, it's likely that you may sweat in it a little bit. So make sure the brace you buy can be washed.
Koprez Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Wrist Brace
The Koprez Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Brace is one of many braces on the market.
This brace can be worn one either the right or the left hand.
It's got a plastic plate along the bottom to make it firm enough that it stabilizes your wrist.
However, it's also quite comfortable.
The brace is lined with a bean-bag like material over the carpal tunnel to prevent compression of the median nerve.
So it gives the brace a snug but comfortable fit.
The brace straps on fairly easily with 4 velcro straps.
